BRIEF: Find the big idea to rebrand and promote local libraries.
MESSAGE: When we need to search for something, we generally go online and Google it. This, along with cuts in public spending, has resulted in a steady decline in the number of local libraries throughout Britain’s towns and cities. Your task is to persuade the public that local libraries are an important part of a community and offer a host of benefits for people of all ages, encouraging more people to visit more often.
OUTPUT: A campaignable brand identity that gets noticed using whatever medium is most effective.
CONCEPT:
The task in hand required us to produce a campaignable brand for local libraries. Modern society has seen the growth of digital platforms and the need for libraries and the services in which they provide is without doubt, overlooked.
In order to undertake this challenge we produced research into libraries as a whole and discovered that the majority lacked any form of personality or inviting qualities and in contrast, we agreed that the idea of reading a book is in fact a personal activity; falling deep into the story, becoming lost with your imagination and ultimately being in your own bubble.
It’s with this idea that we found our creative concept; to ‘immerse yourself’ into your own bubble. To instigate the campaign we have produced a pop up event in the form of a dome installation which will take place across all major cities and provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life and technology; a tranquil environment that we fell best represents how the library should be considered. The brand itself is bright, inviting and appeals to all demographics. A colour coded scheme has been put into place to represent a range of services that can be provided by the libraries to reach out to the public and get the community actively involved and visiting more frequently. From books, guest speakers and cafes to yoga and crafts (pop up events), we feel that the library should be more than just a library, it should be a place for people to unwind and as intended, immerse themselves.
